Sara Wezensky, Ph.D. Candidate
Sara joined the Cramer laboratory in May of 2009 after completing her laboratory rotations in the department at MSU. Sara completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Louisville in the Spring of 2007. During her undergraduate program, Sara gained research experience working with the plant pathogenic fungus Ustilago in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Perlin. For her Ph.D. dissertation in the Cramer laboratory, Sara will be seeking to uncover the mechanism behind the role of SrbA in mediating responses to antifungal agents in A. fumigatus. Sara’s Ph.D. is currently funded in part by a fellowship from the American Heart Association awarded in December of 2009. Sara passed her oral and written comprehensive exams in July of 2010 and also attended the Woods Hole Course on Molecular Mycology in August of 2010. Sara recently published her first, first author manuscript, on the role of SrbA in directly regulating transcription of Erg11A/Cyp51A in Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy.
